Mountains

We visited the hurricane ridge area of the park and took a hike to hurricane hill. Less than a 2 mile hike but 750 feet in elevation gain.  It was a cool hike through the sub-alpine. Very different than the rainforest and beaches from the past few days. We saw some interesting flowers, some snow, black tailed deer and even a black bear.

The scenery from the top was amazing. We had a very clear view of the mountains around us, the  straight of  Juan de Fuca  below and even Canada across the straight.

The kids became junior rangers again. Great program!

The really neat thing about Olympic National park is the diverse landscape. Literally can explore mountains in the morning beaches in the afternoon and rainforest in the evening. After our hike we were wore out. We went back to the campsite for a little bit then headed to the beach. First we stopped at another lavender farm. Then we went to the dungeness spit. Basically a long sandbar peninsula which has been created naturally over the years. It is about 5 miles long and continues to grow each year.

Nate got pretty good at using the seaweed as a whip.

When we got back we cooked one piece of the salmon from the fishing adventure last week. Everyone agreed it was delicious. We cooked some fresh asparagus and green beans to go along with it.
